I think that the Lewis House Scholars program embodies, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another”, perfectly. I wanted to join a community of people who challenge each other intellectually, delve deeper into theological discussions, and form connections rooted in the shared belief in Christ.

What made you want to be a Lewis Scholar?
I was classically educated and loved reading challenging books and discussing the theological and philosophical side of things with my peers. I wanted to be a Lewis House Scholar so that in a large university like UK I could meet people who also had a passion for reading about theology and having deep and meaningful conversations. I also want to learn more about my faith and about different theological backgrounds in the Christian faith so that I can be better equipped to explain the why behind what I believe.

I heard glowing things about it from many of my friends. Having grown up outside of the church, I feel that being a Lewis Scholar will allow me to understand the more foundational and historical beliefs of Christianity.

I love having conversations about my own and others experiences with our personal God. Learning more about who God is to myself and to others is something I cherish most in life. I knew that both the reading of these books and discussion with those around me in faith would be glorifying to Him!

I enjoy thinking about Christianity from academic and philosophical perspectives and the Scholars Program is a great opportunity to do that in community with fellow Christians. I also love that scholars come from different denominations, churches, and ministries and I love learning from people with different perspectives.

My entire life I have loved reading, writing, and discussing literature, theology, and the significance behind the great works I read. I also love pouring into others and being poured back into myself while trying to understand and love more deeply the Lord and all that He created. Entering this new season in my life I have found myself in a place where I am now looking for new ways to connect with others with this passion as well.

I really wanted to grow theologically in my faith and this seemed like the perfect space to do so. I had friends that were scholars and said I would love it so they convinced me to apply. As a second year scholar, I am so happy I chose to do this program. I have grown so much in my ability to think thoroughly through deep faith questions and love getting to hear from those wiser than me.

In my classes and extracurriculars, I get numerous opportunities to challenge by scientific knowledge and critical thinking but my philosophical and theological understanding was an area of my life that I wanted to see more growth in. The Lewis House Scholars program has given me the ability to utilize the critical thinking skills provided to me by schooling towards concepts and issues that all Christians may encounter in their lives. I have learned how to have thoughtful conversations in these areas with grace and love, aiming to reflect the image of Christ simultaneously.
